WIZ Records taps into the past for this classic take on soca with the Vintage Riddim. Producer Shawn "Mr. Roots" Mitchell pays homage to classic soca tunes with this retro composition, which introduces the new generation of soca fans to the roots of the genre. Boasting five singles and the instrumental version, the Vintage Riddim takes us back with Tallpree on "Jab Jab Nation," Benjai on "Come Out To Play," Ricardo Drue on "Tun Tun," Pupa Leendi on "We Like It," Ajamu on "African Jumbie," and the "Vintage Riddim (Instrumental)" from Mr. Roots. The Vintage Riddim recently took center stage at Trinidad Carnival where Grenadian soca star Tallpree competed in the finals of the Groovy Soca Monarch competition (February 28, 2014), with his energetic "Jab Jab Nation." Trinidadian thriller Benjai nabbed third place in the Road March competition on Carnival Tuesday (March 4, 2014), as he brought groovy sounds to that competition with his crowd favorite "Come Out To Play," forever changing the formula for Road March anthems, which are typically power soca tunes. Grenada-born Mr. Roots has been steadily crafting his catalog by fusing native jab jab sounds into his groovy and up-tempo melodies, and now with his foray into the past, brings yet another style of music for soca lovers everywhere to enjoy. |
