About Slatta |
Gerard "Slatta" John is an electrifying and versatile soca artist, hailing from the island Carriacou, the sister isle of Grenada. He was raised in the village of Mt. Royal and expressed an interest in music at a very young age, and has been a mainstay in the local music scene ever since.
Slatta fostered a working relationship with the producers of Xpert Studios, home to one of Grenada’s top hit makers - Jason "Xpert" James, and eventually joined the production team in 2010.
Within a few years, Slatta was creating history in his homeland. In 2014, he won the Carriacou Road March competition title with his breakout hit "Heart Of The Fete," a collaboration with the now three-time Grenada Groovy Monarch Shortpree.
In 2016, Slatta gained the attention of the soca massive with his thrilling tune "Jab Jab Skank." He went on to capture the 2017 Carriacou Soca Monarch title with another monster jam called "World War."
Since then, he’s been making a name for himself on the music production end, composing recent crowd favorites such as "In The Morning" featuring Lavaman, "Unbothered," "Wukking High" and "Gone Through."
Slatta ends the decade on a high note with the international release of his debut album, Darker Shades of Dark, bringing his unique flavor of soca music to the global masses. |
